After a class has been on their field trip to the bay, quilt artist and environmental educator Jennifer Snedeker, presents a follow up program in the classroom. The program takes between 1 to 2 hours. During this time Jennifer will help the students create blocks for a class quilt about the bay while reviewing bay ecology. Students will create the blocks by drawing and painting on the fabric. Jennifer will then later sew the pieces together into a quilt. A few schools can also have the option of a longer or after school program where the students assist in sewing together the quilt. The class will receive the finished quilt to keep. The Bay Quilt Project will also be trying to exhibit some of the student work as well as display it on the website. At this point in time the quilt program will be free to participating schools.

The 2006-2007 school year is the first year of this program. The Bay Quilt Project is working with the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center and the Marine Science Institute to work with approximately 10 classes to create quilts, so space is limited. If your school is having a field trip with one of these two groups and would like to participate, e-mail us at jsnedeker@jensnedquilts using the header BQP class program to check on availability and scheduling.
