Clapper rails are one of the endangered species around San Francisco Bay. Much of the original wetlands surrounding the bay have been destroyed and habitat loss is one of the threats to animals. such as the clapper rail and the endangered salt marsh harvest mouse. Clapper rails are also eaten by the introduced red fox.
