Over the summer of 2006 students in the Ocean Camp helped create this quilt depicting marine life. The students drew pictures and helped dye the fabric. The bottom layer with the brown squares is the benthic – the bottom dwelling invertebrates living in the mud. The middle blue layer is the fish and plankton in the water. The top layer with the lighter blue and white are the birds above the water. The boat is the Robert G. Brownlee, the Marine Science Institute’s research vessel that takes the children out on the bay to study life in the San Franscisco Bay Estuary.
